TJ Prep Problems

TJ Prep practice problems  for our students and readers. The problems provide a very small sampling of what Optimal TJ Prep students work with.

A Dog Food Problem for TJ Prep (Medium) 39-40 seconds.

A certain dog eats 4x10^4 bits of dog food every week. On average, each bit of dog food contains 5x10^-1 mg of protein and, on average, 6x10^-3 particles of SARS-CoV-2. Over a six week period, if the dog ingests >2000 particles of CoV-2, the dog will get sick. 1) how many grams of protein, will the dog get over a six week period, and 2) will the dog get sick?

An Algebra Problem for TJ/AOS/Blair/ACT/SAT Prep (Easy). Target Time. 15-40 seconds.

Maya bikes for 24 minutes at 24 MPH. At what speed she must bike for the next 6 minutes so that her average speed for the entire trip will be 20 MPH?

Note. If you can't solve this problem within 40 seconds, you do not completely understand speed-distance problems. If you can solve it but take more than 20-30 seconds then there is room for significant improvement in your problem solving skills.
